Cats are generally needed not to be bathed, for they are considered to be naturally-clean animals. They are good when it comes to cleaning themselves, and that is all the bathing that they need. However, there are instances where they may need a bath. Take a look on the following items and check if it is present in your pet cat:
• Your pet cat has got something toxic on its fur and you do not want your cat to lick it;
• Your pet cat is unable of taking care of itself just like normal cats do;
• There are greasy coats that have got to their fur;
• Its fur contains several allergens which you are allergic at;
• You find fleas, lice dip, or tick on its furs; and
• Your cat is now long-haired and it needs some help in washing and/or brushing its fur.
You are quite aware that most cats really hate water; that is why they are contented on cleaning themselves with their tongue. It is important that you introduce bathing to your cat when they are still kitten. Bathing cats also serves the same purpose as we take a bath everyday—to promote cleanliness. As you introduced bathing to your cat when it is still a kitten and you make it as a regular habit to make, you will find out later on that your cat now likes water.
Preparation for bathing your cat is not as easy as you think. Remember that human shampoos should not be used into your pet cats because it contains several ingredients that are strong enough that it can wound your cat’s skin. Always use cat shampoo for bathing your cat safely.
Wear some protection like long sleeves, pants, and a pair of gloves. There are also cat owners who wear safety goggles, especially if they will bath their cat for the first time. The active ingredients of cat shampoo and soap may irritate your skin and your eyes as well. Also, bath your cat in an enclosed space; always close the bathroom door when bathing your cat. Keep in mind that escape is always possible.
It is a good idea that you purchase mild eye ointments or drops to prevent the strong ingredients of your cat’s shampoo and soap from getting into its eyes. You will also need de-greasers, wetting agent, and conditioners to discharge the tangles in its coat. You may use a sprayer attachment in rinsing your cat.
In bathing as well as drying your cats, you may refer to the following steps:
• Apply the mild eye ointment or eye drop to their eyes;
• Fill the sink with lukewarm water and add small quantities of wetting agent.
• Place your cat on the sink carefully and pour the water on its body. Avoid putting water in its ears and head as well.
• Drain the water on the sink; you may now cleanse its head using the shampoo. Place small quantity of shampoo on a wet cloth and wipe it gently over its head, mouth, cheeks, and eyes. Rinse the cloth with clean water and go over again the face to remove the shampoo.
• Rinse it with water for several times until the soap and shampoo bubbles are gone.
• Dry its fur using a towel. After which, you may now comb your cat.
By following the aforementioned steps, you are assured that your cat is clean and healthy as well.
