It would probably take a seasoned feline owner to detect the behavioral gestures and symptoms that manifest in the context of cat health and feline diseases. Though it would only take a measure of common sense to determine what really matters in the discourse of nutrition and disease remedy that is fitting to the body chemistry of a cat.

In the wild, tigers and hyenas forage for animal meat for their sustenance while skimming the vast flora to cure their aches and pains; a simple formula to wellness that has spurred the mythical nice lives of cats. And yet at an era that has reared obese and diabetic felines now leading sedentary lives, the very life of a typical household cat becomes exposed to a threshold of health hazards and risks. What then could have gone wrong with the uptake of cat health in the hands of health conscious cat owners?

The advent of pet food and veterinary medicine has much to do with the deterioration of cat health in this day and age. Feeding pets with dry canned food that must have been prepared with substandard ingredients of meat by products and preservatives leaves them undernourished to merit allergies as well as the impaired production of hormones vital to disease prevention. The repeated use of veterinary medicine on the other hand to treat a simple cat urinary tract infection likewise takes its toll on the pet’s immune defenses with unwanted chemicals in the body suppressing the defensive action of microorganisms manning the immune system. As a consequence, the breakdown of cat health becomes inevitable.

What is important at this point is to take a feline eye on matters of cat health by providing them the foods and natural remedies that support life in the wild. A daily serving of raw meat conveys a tantamount of animal protein that would sustain continued cat health even in the old age. Of course don’t forget to complement dry feed with enough water to prevent instances of dehydration.

In the event of infections and other diseases, there is wisdom with the restraint on pet antibiotics, vaccines and other veterinary medicine. Pursuing natural treatments such as pet herbal supplements would be kinder to the delicate and less intricate body system of animals. Expert herbalists practicing holistic methods of healing have prepared diverse pet herbal supplement formulas for the treatment of cat urinary tract infections, ear infections, respiratory illnesses and even for the emotional issues confronting pets. Know that pet herbal supplements will not bring about the harsh side effects inherent in the treatment of veterinary medicine. Moreover, holistic healing approaches guarantee to restore cat health and vitality following the sustained administration of pet herbal supplements.

It takes a feline eye in the wildlife perspective of nutrition and healing to sustain cat health. Surely, your pet will thank you for the daily serving of raw meat along with the dose of pet herbal supplement when diseases strike.

Ever wondered when cats fall, they always seem to land properly on their feet. Moreover, they do not suffer from any bruises or injuries. Does it have to do with the old mythological saying that cats have nine lives? Some say cats survive huge fall because they are tenacious and determined of life as compared to other animals. However, why nine lives? Let us explore this issue.

According to the ancient Greek mythology, nine refers to trinity of all trinities. Nine is a mystic number that invokes tradition and religion. Greeks believed Atum-Ra the sun god gave life to nine gods. These gods were together called as Ennead or Nine.

Atum-Ra the sun god took the appearance of cat and instilled its soul in each of these gods. When evil power came to destroy these gods, they survived unhurt because they had an instillation of sun god in them. Later, people in ancient Greek followed sun god. They started worshipping cats and believed that cats have nine lives same as these gods.

According to the legends, in AD 962, Count of Ypres Baldwin III hurled some felines from the top of the tower but to his surprise, they survived without a single bruise. He hurled them nine times and to his astonishment they survived every time and so, he left them alone. Since then, the Belgian people celebrate the cat history by throwing artificial cats from hall tower.

What Science Has To Say:

The miracles of the medieval period became science of the nineteenth century. In the year 1894, a renowned French life scientist Etienne-Jules Marey explained the remarkable ability of cats to survive huge falls and escape unhurt. Marey held a feline upside down and hurled it downwards.

The research unit captured the entire film, using a camera, which took about 60 images per second. This film made clear as how cat lands on its feet every time when it falls from high altitudes. Thus, a conclusion was made that, when the cat falls downwards the automatic twisting effect begins in the body of the cat.

The cat directs its head, legs, tail, and body towards the ground and readies itself for a stable landing. The reaction is so immediate that cat judges the gravity and guides its body accordingly. Thus, cats have the instinct of physics too.

Moreover, scientist says that cats have an inherent ability to land on feet every time they fall. However, this happens only during one or two occasion. It is same as the reaction of human body during critical situations. Studies also show that 90 percent of cats survive the falls and go unhurt.

However, a cautious note for people who might try throwing their cats out of their house is to understand that most domestic cats of recent times may not possess this skill as their lives have increasingly become sedentary.

Overview:

The mystery of nine lives began during the medieval period. Although, Greek people no longer worship the cats and all the nine gods are elapsed with time, but the resilience of cats continues to inspire fascination. That is the reason why the myth of nine lives of cat endures until now.

Currently valued at $88 million and chalking up growth of at least 45% annually, the pet health insurance market clearly is a diamond in the rough; there are more than 136 million dogs and cats in this country-but less than 1% of them have insurance (versus 14% of dogs and 5% of cats in the U.K.). As Americans discover more about the true nature of cat health insurance and how it can save them time, stress and money, that 1% will grow exponentially. Even now, large employers are beginning to add pet health insurance options on their employee health packages. Cat Health Insurance is a real solution and is here to stay.

Take for example, if your kid were to break his leg and require emergency hospitalization. Your costs would look something like this:

Emergency room care $3,500.00

X-ray bill $ 500.00

X-ray technician diagnosis $ 950.00

Doctor’s bill $1500.00

Bill for your room in ER $7500.00

Total $13,950.00

Now that’s an intimidating number!
BUT! Thank God, you have insurance coverage, so really your co-pay bill will be about $250. BIG DIFFERENCE!

This very simplistic example can happen, and does happen every single day for cat owners across the United States. The extremely unfortunate truth that you would not like to admit even to yourself is, at that price without insurance to help, would you not consider having to put your cat down rather than suffer through paying such an outrageous vet bill? Tragically, many cat owners do just that. The sense of loss, guilt, helplessness and sadness in that kind of decision is unbearable.

That is why we want you to “go on offense” and take control of your cat’s health. It is that kind of decision that we see as “your opponent.” Stop and think about what you would do if you were faced with that situation. And now decide what you want to do today about preventing it from ever happening.

Here is a more comprehensive breakdown of what can be covered for cats:

Covered:

Leukemia

Ear infections

Infectious diseases

Respiratory system

Musculoskeletal system

Bladder Infections and Feline Urological Syndrome (FUS)

Nervous system

Skin rashes

Gastrointestinal upsets causing diarrhea and/or vomiting

Cancer

Diabetes

Hospitalization

Eye problems

Cardiovascular system

Urogenital system

Endocrine system

Blood and lymphoid system

Abscesses

Abscessed, Diseased or Broken Teeth

X-rays, diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests to diagnose or treat an injury or illness

Gastric torsion (bloat)

Euthanasia of your cat when you and your vet agree it is required for humane reasons, resulting from injury or illness

Prescriptions drugs for a covered illness or injury

Some of the typical exclusions for cats include:

Preventative care or routine checkups

Pre-existing conditions or injury that existed prior to the effective date of the policy

Costs from breeding, pregnancy or nursing

Holistic, homeopathic herbal, acupuncture or chiropractic treatments

Experimental treatments

Organ transplants

Special diets or foods

Behavioral problems and treatments

Grooming or grooming supplies

Flea, heartworm or parasitic preventative treatment

Elective procedures

Costs for illnesses or injury arising out of organized fighting of your pet

Intentional injury to your pet

Health certificates or vaccination tags

Here is a list of the basic information you may need to provide about your pet:

Name of cat

Breed (if applicable)

Pet’s date of birth

When did you get your cat?

Where do you live? Usually a zip code will do

Note: If you have an older cat, the pet insurance company may require additional information such as previous medical history and any pre-existing conditions.

With the increasing popularity of cats as pets, there have been many developments in the accessories we can get to help make their lives, and ours, much happier and more convenient.

Litter boxes, for example, have come a long way from the simple, plastic rectangle filled with plain old sand. Now you can find boxes in many shapes, sizes and colors, as well as other litter disposal and handling mechanisms and systems.

In the “plain old box” category, if you want a little variety, you can get a triangular pan to fit in a corner, or one with high sides for those energetic cats who like to shovel the sand around for five minutes, looking like a badger digging a hole.

The hooded pans, with removable covers, can help hide things a bit, as well as contain the odors to a small extent. Perhaps one of the best features of a covered pan, though, is the fact that it keeps the sand inside the box, no matter how vigorously your cat likes to paw around in there… unless he aims for the entrance, of course.

In the inexpensive category, the box I like best is the sifting pan. It comes with two litter pans, nested, with a third pan on top that has a lattice bottom. When the sand is ready to be sifted, you simply lift up the top pan, jiggling it as you lift, and dump the solids into a waiting bag or can, leaving “clean” sand behind. Place the latticed pan into the bottom pan and nest it underneath the top pan. When it’s time to clean the sand again, just lift the pan out, and pour the sand into the bottom pan, collecting the solids in the lattice pan in the process. Clean the dirty one and place it under the stack, ready for the next round. This cycle is repeated until the sand is exhausted, then is simply replaced. No scooping!

If you are willing and able, the more expensive options include the various electric, self-sifting pans. Using sensors, these pans “wake up” after the cat has left, activating a rake or screen that moves through the sand, dumping the collected solids into a reservoir. Simply pull the little drawer out, empty it into a bag, if the system hasn’t already done that step, and throw it away.

The most expensive system I’ve seen is the one that integrates with a toilet in the home. Somehow, it rinses the sand (using special crystals, not regular sand, by the way) and dries it out, flushing the wastes away in the toilet. You never have to touch anything or carry anything to the trash. It’s the ultimate litter system.

No matter which system you choose, it’s essential to keep litter boxes clean. The most frequent complaint about house cats is what’s called “inappropriate elimination,” or, not using the litter box. And the most frequent reason they avoid the box is that it’s not clean enough.

Find a litter box that is easy to use and fits your budget and you’ll find your cat behaving better in your home.

On thing you can say for cats is that they are very clean animals. Are there other reasons cats spend so much time licking themselves? Most people never ask this question because they think cats lick themselves to stay clean. You will be surprised to learn that there are other reasons why cats lick themselves.

Regulating body heat is another reason why cats lick themselves. If they are hot, the y lick to cool down, if they are cold, licking helps warm them up. The tongue is like a thermostat.

Cat licking creates a secretion that works as a waterproofing for the fur. By stimulating the gland, the cat is making their fur waterproof.

A cat will lick himself or herself to get rid of your scent after you pet them. They also lick to make their fur lay back down the way they want it after you pet them.

Cats also groom themselves to relieve stress.

Cats that excessively groom may have an illness or some type of behavior problem. If they continually lick aggressively, their hair could fall out in that particular area. If you see this problem you need to take the cat to a vet.

Have you ever wondered who invents the different scoopable cat litters? Well I have to tell you that not all cat litters are created equally. I have always used one brand of cat litter for years and never have had anyone smell a litter box when they visit. I use Scoop Away. Trying to save a penny did not pay off for me a few months ago. It actually caused me nothing but problems.

I tried a highly reputable scoopable cat litter that was just horrible. I could smell the litter box and so could everyone else. The difference in smell was incredible. I never gag when I scoop my cat litter boxes. Nevertheless, I will tell you that I gagged every night and morning for a couple of weeks. The cat litter did not absorb the smell of cat urine at all.

I was completely dumbfounded because I know many people that use the cat litter and have no problems. I was disappointed with the product and went back to my Scoop Away as soon as I could. I was told that there might be different strength cat litters for multiple cat homes, but I never saw any different containers.

It is amazing how well the cat litter I use every day does not allow the smell in the house and it also works good for cleaning up oil spills as well.

Having three cats is rough on the budget since you need litter every week and food every three weeks. One way I have managed to save money on cat litter is by cleaning the litter box once in the morning and once at bedtime. This has helped keep the litter in the box where it belongs. I have a cat that is so tidy that he insists on cleaning up after everyone and scatters litter all over the place.

By cleaning the box and letting him help clean at night has cut down on the amount of cat litter outside of the litter box. Another thing I noticed was that buying a big box of cat litter at Wal-Mart instead of little boxes at the grocery store has cut down on the cost as well. It is easier to keep the cost down for cat food and cat litter by shopping somewhere other than the grocery store.

I have even noticed a difference in my own food bill by doing some grocery shopping at the Super Wal-Mart. I guest if you have a lot of animals and need to cut costs so everyone has what they need, you have to shop around for everything.

Have you ever wondered what is in those cat toys that make cats go nuts? It is catnip and it is like a high for cats. You can buy cat toys with catnip or you can buy plain old catnip to give the cats once and a while. They will act funny for about an hour or so if you give them straight catnip or as long as they play with their cat toys if that is how they get the catnip.

You can find cat toys that keep cats busy for hours. It is not unusual for cats to play with cat toys containing catnip and then take a lengthy nap. Cats are hilarious to watch when playing with their toys. They will do flips, roll around all over and even throw their toys in the air and catch them.

Cats can easily amuse themselves when playing with catnip toys. If you have straight catnip, you just give the cat a pinch and they will do some funny things. What exactly is catnip that it has this effect on cats? Well, if you ask me, I would say it has the similarities of marijuana. I know that this does not sound realistic, but if you watch somebody after smoking and a cat after catnip, you would think the same thing.
