Cats do not actually need carbohydrates that can be found in most plants. However, if its used as a supplement for cat food it will not harm your pet cat. In fact, most canned cat foods contain fillers that are carbohydrate rich foods like corn, rice and wheat. Other ingredients can also be added to the cat foods to satisfy the cats taste demands. It is to be expected that canned foods contain preservatives that keep cat food fresh but it is not advisable to let the food stay unconsumed for a long time.

When you have no choice but to buy canned cat foods, there are things to consider before buying. The product must have complied with AAFCO’s requisites. When a certain canned food passed the AAFCO’s screening, there are labels that are printed on the packaging of the product as proof. Make sure that you always read the contents of the canned food listed in the ingredients. And lastly, look for the expiration date on the label.
