There are short hair cats and long hair cats. The type of coat that you like is going to determine the kind of cat you can get. If you like long hair, you might get an Angora or a Himalayan. If you prefer short hair, Siamese or American Shorthairs will be the cat for you. Keep in mind that cats with long hair do need grooming just like a dog. You will want to keep them brushed to keep the coat clean and free from tangles.

Short hair cats do not need as much brushing, but you can brush them to keep lose hair from getting everywhere. Brushing any cat will help cut down on hairballs that can be stressful for cats. If you want a cat, you should make sure you have the time to brush them. This is especially true if you have a long haired cat.
