Cats are fairly resilient creatures, but there are plenty of hazards in the world which you should be aware of. For example, there is a surprising number of household products and plants which can be incredibly toxic and deadly to a cat if eaten. Sometimes these things are common sense, like paint thinners and turpentine, but sometimes there are overlooked products as well, like moth balls and suntan lotion containing cocoa butter.

While you may believe that a bee is pretty harmless to a cat, a sting to the mouth can be incredibly dangerous. Since cats regularly catch insects with their mouths, you have to be especially careful to prevent this. If your cat is ever stung in the mouth, you should leave for the veterinarian office immediately. She may be unable to breathe as her mouth swells from the sting. Urgent medical care is ALWAYS required for stings.

If you are considering redecorating, you should be aware that wallpaper paste, paint thinner and paint are all extremely toxic to cats in most cases, so do not let your kitty explore until you have put the supplies away.

You absolutely must pet-proof your house as completely as possible by removing potentially harmful items, such as automobile coolant, anti-freeze, rat poison, chemical cleaners and so on. Believe it or not, the fumes that come from moth balls can destroy the cells in your cat’s liver, so opt for cedar instead when it comes to your closet.

There is a large list of plants which can be potentially poisonous to your cat. Print this list out and keep it with you whenever purchasing plants for the house or garden. You’ll be surprised at what can potentially harm your feline companion.
