Thanksgiving is a great time to enjoy the company of friends and family and to eat heartily. But, the day can be stressful for your kitties if all the company comes to your house. It can also be tempting to feed them special food. Here are some things you should keep in mind.
1. Certain foods are toxic to cats. Onions, grapes, and raisins are just a few. For a thanksgiving treat give your cat only a small amount of plain, roasted turkey. Make sure no onion has been cooked with the bird first and do not give them any meat with bones in it. Small bones and pieces of bone can get lodged in a cat’s throat and choke them!
2. If you plan to use lighted candles for dinner, don’t light them until it is time to sit down. Cats are curious and they can easily burn themselves or knock over candles.
3. Cats can be stressed out by visitors. Make sure there is a safe, quiet room for your cats to go to if the company becomes too much for them. And make sure to check on them throughout the day and give them some of your attention.
4. Last, but not least, give thanks for your cats!
