When you say Persians, people will say, “Oh, that’s an attractive cat with a long, silky hair, which has eyes of a precious jewel.” Persian cats are famous for such attributes.
However, their long hair needs a lot of grooming in order to keep it in best shape. If you have a Persian cat, perhaps you already know that it is crucial to properly care for this breed of cat.
On her first time in your home, a Persian cat will more likely to explore. This means that you will need a big space for a Persian cat. Never panic - she won’t eat immediately. She will surely need enough time to adjust in a new environment. When they already feel comfortable, they will surely eat.
Provide a space wherein you could place her water and food and also her litter box. Put these things in a place where a cat could reach them without facing any problem. Let her know where she could eat and use her litter box. Don’t worry it will not take years or even months for her to figure out the proper place for her eating.
About the litter box, it would always be wise, though needs some extra money, to purchase one in good quality. Cheap litter boxes especially those without names do not really work very well. Brand names are also important in choosing your pet’s food. Always remember, the good the ingredient contents, the healthier your Persian cat will be.
If you have a Persian kitten, you should feed her at least 4 times daily. Otherwise, it is also a good idea to leave her with fresh food during the day. Adult Persian cats should be fed two times daily. Also, if you have a pregnant or lactating Persian cat, you will need additional food and calcium in order to meet the nutritional needs.
Always put fresh water in her bowl. In addition, you should not give your cat bones which she could chew on. They might them tear into pieces which can result to choking.
Your Persian also needs to be immunized. You will need your vet this time. Your cat will be given rabies vaccination and an injection of feline distemper. Other vaccinations will also be required.
One big responsibility of a person with a Persian cat is grooming. Since they have silky, long hair, a continuous grooming is recommended. Use a steel comb with long teeth to comb the hair of your Persian. Pay attention to her tummy, chest, behind the ears and under her chin. The spots are known to cause hair troubles to most cats.
Once combing is done, brush the grain to encourage growth and improve shine. You should also have to clean the ears of your cat. If there is oil, clean it gently using cotton swab. Then, clean her eyes using a soft fabric.
Your cat is expected to have long periods of playing. Therefore, it is ideal to have several good toys to encourage exercise. Catnip is a great example for this one. After playing, make sure that she has a nice place to sleep. A safe place in the corner of your house would be great or if you want you can buy her a cat bed.
Above all, give your Persian cat more attention and affection that she always needs.
