I talked to a man about the use of Softclaws verses declawing. I have two cats with all their claws, as you know from a previous post, they love to use their claws on a chair and the carpeting. I also have one that has no front claws. The man said that he believes that cats that wear the Softclaws would not be able to protect themselves outside anyway. The truth of the matter is that I would have to agree. If the Softclaws protect your furnishings from clawing, how could a cat protect themselves from other cats or predators?
I think that a cat that gets into a scrape with another cat is going to lose because they think they can protect themselves and really cannot. I know that a cat with no front claws can protect themselves because they use a different approach because they no they have no claws. My cat is living proof of that. She does not have claws, but she can still jump a six-foot fence with a bunny rabbit in her mouth. (I rescued the bunny) She has learned how to take care of herself outside.
I do not purposely let her out, she escapes. She has even gone so far as to push out a second floor screen and jump. She fends for herself just fine with no claws. If I would use Softclaws on my other two cats that never go outside, it could cause problems if they would accidentally get out. Therefore, now I have more questions about the Softclaw. Is it really good for the cat?
