There is nothing cuter than a kitten. But, bringing a new kitten home as a pet can be traumatic. Cats do not appreciate change. Keeping a few things in mind, you can make the transition bearable for your new friend.
Kittens can be easily overwhelmed because they have not experienced much of the world yet. Your new kitty may be terrified when you first bring him home. If you let him go in the house, most likely he will hide. When I brought home my two kittens, I couldn’t find them for several hours. Finally, my husband spotted them behind the furnace. They found the smallest place they could squeeze their little bodies, because that made them feel safe.
The best way to introduce kittens to your home is to prepare a room for them. Put out water, food, a litter box, and some toys. Release them into this room and keep the door shut. They will be less scared if they have just one room to conquer, rather than the whole house. Their room should also contain something, like a box or cat carrier, that they can climb into to feel safe.
Keep the kittens in their safe little room until they seem comfortable with you and their surroundings. Make sure to spend plenty of time in the room with them. The more time you spend with them as kittens, the more sociable they will be with people in general.
Finally, be patient. Depending on their nature, your kittens may take one day or several to acclimatize to their new home. No matter how shy they are, they will eventually come around.
