Many people do not think about animal cruelty when they think about cats. The sad thing is that many cats are abused but the news reporters never hear about the abuse. Many times the abuse goes unreported. Cats have been started on fire, tied behind a car by a rope and ragged or hanged by the neck to watch them die. Kittens are drowned every day because people do not have their cats spayed or neutered. This is abuse in the most horrible form.  

What do people get for a punishment for abusing a cat? A fine is all they get if they are caught. Isn’t animal abuse the same as child abuse? In my mind, they are the same. Cats rely on us for food, love and a place to live. We are supposed to keep them safe and healthy while teaching and training them right from wrong. I did all this with my children from baby on. Animal abuse and child abuse are the same and the punishments should be the same.  

They are like children that need nurturing and love to survive. Therefore, our justice system needs to re-evaluate the laws regarding animal abuse to protect our precious cats.
