Many feral cats will seek out a place that is safe to hide her kittens from predators. If you find yourself in this situation, you can leave her there or call the local Humane Society to try to trap the mother. They can then catch the kittens. If you leave her there, chances are as soon as the kittens are old enough, she will leave them to fend for themselves. They will wander around your yard for some time before they venture out to other areas.
Unfortunately, feral kittens are usually afraid of humans. If you try to catch one, you may have a fight. They are born wild with no human contact. They feed in the wild and learn survival from the mother cat. You could try to place cat food out for them and water. Offering the kittens food may help tame them a little so you can catch them and take them in to the shelter.
Feral cats need help and the person who has feral cats living nearby can set the trap and catch the mother, but only after, she has taken care of her kittens. In some cases, the mother and babies are caught before the kittens are weaned. This might make the mother stop feeding them. Every organization has a different viewpoint on feral mother cats and kittens. It is wise to do what you think is best.
